A Name to Reckon With
Archibald Menzies was the naturalist on George Vancouver's 1790 voyage of discovery to Vancouver Island. A fellow of the Linnaean Society, Menzies' name is commemorated in many of the British Columbia plants that he described. These plants include Metchosin's famous Douglas-firs (Pseudotsuga menziesii) and Arbutuses (Arbutus menziesii).
